Six practical tests that protect an accelerated schedule: mobilization capacity, connected construction and commissioning, low-voltage depth, live completions visibility, on-site power fluency and supervision.
The pace of mission-critical construction puts commissioning directly on the critical path. The right partner is not simply the one that can test systems. It is the one that can scale, coordinate and turn clean documentation over at the pace the build requires.
1. Mobilization capacity has to be real, not theoretical
Data center schedules move from planned staffing to immediate need very quickly. A commissioning partner should be able to explain exactly where supervision and craft will come from, how fast teams can mobilize and how consistency is maintained as headcount grows. Sitewide draws from a pool of 800+ electricians and has put 200+ people on site in two weeks on Golden Pass LNG.
2. Construction and commissioning should connect
The handoff between construction, pre-commissioning, testing and final turnover is where schedule friction appears. A partner with both capabilities removes those interfaces. Sitewide delivers electrical, instrumentation and mechanical construction and commissioning under one contract, including RFSU assistance, ITR/FTR management, loop testing, cable testing and turnkey commissioning.
3. Low-voltage depth matters more than most people expect
Data centers place unusually heavy demand on LV scope. Your contractor should be comfortable with raceways below 1kV, LV power and control cable pulling, terminations, grounding and bonding, continuity and insulation-resistance testing, phase rotation, point-to-point testing and deficiency tracking all the way through energization.
4. The project team should see completions live
Paper-driven turnover creates reporting lag, and lag hides risk. Sitewide runs every project through a live electronic completions platform that accepts cable schedules, instrument lists and assets, tracks punchlist items, manages multi-step approvals, adapts test sheets to client formats and keeps redlined drawings in one place.
5. The partner has to understand the power side of the campus
On-site generation and containerized infrastructure are now part of data center delivery. Sitewide installs and commissions modular power containers, prefabricated switchgear enclosures, cooling and battery containers, and brings parallel experience from LNG and power generation.
6. Safety and supervision are schedule issues
Safety performance and quality discipline are not separate from production. They determine whether work continues predictably and whether systems move into commissioning without avoidable rework. Sitewide reports a 2026 EMR of 0.69 and zero OSHA recordables across the active portfolio.
The practical test
Before awarding a data center commissioning package, ask the contractor to show how it will staff the project, manage supervision, track completions, handle LV and MV testing, interface with vendors and keep documentation current. The answers should be specific enough that you can see how the team will operate before the first person mobilizes.
